You know the one place in Magic that isn’t corrupted by capitalism? SPAAAAAAAAC
In August, Wizards of the Coast will take Magic: The Gathering to the cusp of the Blind Eternities as Edge of Eternities will be a space fantasy we haven’t really seen in a Standard set before. As the last in-Magic Standard release of the year, Edge of Eternities reach similar heights as the incredible Tarkir: Dragonstorm, which is currently one of the best-performing in-Magic releases this year.

Edge of Eternities’s global release date falls on August 1, 2025, with MTG Arena and Magic Online release dates falling a few days before on July 29, 2025. As for card legality, Edge of Eternities adheres to the usual legality of cards being available to play in Standard, Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, Commander, and Pauper. Like with many Standard releases these days, cards from Edge of Eternities are technically legal to play in Standard upon Prerelease weekend, an effort that began with Streets of New Capenna to reduce confusion with players.
Moving onto the Edge of Eternities Commander Decks, these cards will be Legacy, Vintage, and Commander legal upon release and won’t be available to play in Standard (unless already printed in a recent Standard set). As for Stellar Sights and Special Guests, these maintain the same legality already available in other formats, with the caveat the Stellar Sights and Special Guests cards are playable in Draft and Sealed (which includes Prereleases). Take Mutavault as an example (which is a Stellar Sights card), a card that is Pioneer, Modern, Legacy, Vintage, and Commander legal and will remain so with the upcoming reprint.

There have been a few Edge of Eternities reveals already due to MagicCon: Las Vegas 2025, with the most notable being the reprint of the Shock Lands. While we aren’t getting the full ten with Edge of Eternities’s release, Shock Lands are some of the best mana options designed by Wizards of the Coast and will prove popular with players. It’s also worth mentioning Wizards of the Coast have scrapped the “allied” and “enemy” color groupings as seen before in Guilds of Ravnica and Ravnica Allegiance. Either way, it’s safe to assume the rest of the cycle (which would be Overgrown Tomb, Steam Vents, Hallowed Fountain, Temple Garden, and Blood Crypt will feature in a future Standard release.

Furthermore, both of the Edge of Eternities Commander Decks will feature a Legendary Spacecraft as an alternative Commander, neither cards have been revealed yet.
If you want to hear more about the upcoming rules update, Gavin Verhey of the Commander Format Panel published a video explaining everything about it.
Edge of Eternities Lore

Market Price: $69.72

Edge of Eternities marks the third (and final) story arc of the Metronome storyline, where it introduces the Edge, a region outside of the Multiverse that boards closely with the Blind Eternities. As the set name suggests, Edge of Eternities is Wizards of the Coast’s first proper foray into space fantasy, with Unfinity being a proof of concept (of sorts) back in 2022. Another aspect of Edge of Eternities is that we’ll explore the Sothera system for the first as various forces battle for cosmic power, with Tezzeret looking to play a notable role within the Standard release.
The story for Edge of Eternities is currently ongoing, where you can read the following stories (written by Seth Dickinson) here:

The Commander Decks in Edge of Eternities

Much like Aetherdrift, Edge of Eternities sees two Commander Decks to support this space-centric set, with Counter Intelligence and World Shaper being the choices this time around. Counter Intelligence Commander Deck is the Jeskai (blue/white/red) offering led by Kilo, Apogee Mind, which features artifact synergies along with the Proliferate mechanic. Proliferate is a popular keyword in Magic: The Gathering, letting you distribute counters to all permanents (and players) during a game, but only if they have a counter already.
World Shaper Commander Deck the Jund (black/red/green) option and is led by Szarel, Genesis Shepherd, centering around playing lands from the graveyard and (ideally) sacrificing those lands to bolster your creatures on the battlefield. Land-centric Commanders are historically popular, and since Szarel references Crucible of Worlds, expect this to be a desirable Commander to own on release day.
The Stellar Sights in Edge of Eternities

Stellar Sights is the bonus sheet for Edge of Eternities, where these will feature reprints of iconic land cards from Magic: The Gathering’s history. Revealed at MagicCon: Vegas 2025, Mutavault will be one of the many cards players will be eager to collect upon the August release date. If that wasn’t enough collectibility for you, the Stellar Sights cards also appear in a Borderless Poster treatment and in Galaxy Foil, a popular foiling technique first appearing in Unfinity.
In terms of pull rates, you can expect to open a Stellar Sights card in one of eight Edge of Eternities Play Boosters, with one of these Stellar Sights cards always appearing in a Collector Booster (which could also be Borderless Poster printing). As mentioned earlier, these Stellar Sights cards can be played in Draft or Sealed, which includes events like Prereleases. However, these Stellar Sights cards won’t become Standard legal unless they’re already printed previous Standard release.
The Special Guests in Edge of Eternities
The Special Guests will return with Edge of Eternities as it offers an exciting way to open Masters-level reprints in Play Boosters, with foils exclusive to Collector Boosters. The Special Guests often marry themes that apply to the set they’re printed in, so you can expect some space fantasy variants of desirable reprints to collect on release. Usually, there’s ten Special Guests cards attached to a release, so you can expect the same here with Edge of Eternities.
Edge of Eternities Card Treatments

Market Price: $14.82

Market Price: $89.67
With previews kicking off soon, there isn’t much information available on which new card treatments will appear in Edge of Eternities. However, Extended Art and Borderless variants are confirmed to return, as teased at MagicCon: Las Vegas 2025 with The Seriema and Tezzeret, Cruel Captain being the notable reveals.
Sothera, the Supervoid
Edge of Eternities, Mythic

The Japan Showcase cards also return after a hiatus, with Sothera, the Supervoid being one of the ten Japan Showcase cards you can collect. If these are in line with the other Japan Showcase cards released since Duskmourn: House of Horror, these should also appear as Fractured Foils (only in Collector Boosters) and in Japanese (available in both Play and Collector Boosters) but with lower pull rates.
Sothera, the Supervoid
Edge of Eternities, Mythic

Whenever a creature you control dies, each opponent chooses a creature they control and exiles it. At the beginning of your end step, if a player controls no creatures, sacrifice Sothera, then put a creature card exiled with it onto the battlefield under your control with two additional +1/+1 counters on it.
Speaking of Sothera, the mythic rare also comes in a unique treatment as part of the growing Headliner series. Starting with Innistrad Remastered, the Headliner cards are incredibly rare and only appear in very low pull rates from Collector Boosters of any language. These Headliner cards can sometimes be serialized (as seen with Tarkir: Dragonstorm’s Mox Jasper), or just be really unique in the card’s treatment instead. This is true with Sothera, the Supervoid, which is the first Headliner card without any serialization but appears in a brand-new Singularity Foil treatment.

Market Price: $3.00
Lastly, Celestial Borderless Basic Lands will appear in Edge of Eternities and showcase some of the incredible sights around the Sothera system. Rather fittingly, Galaxy Foils return in Edge of Eternities and will appear on many of the Celestial Borderless Basic Lands from the release. Given the collectibility of Galaxy Foils in the past (with sets such as Unfinity), these will only appear in Edge of Eternities Collector Boosters. However, you will be able to collect traditional foil printings of these from both Play and Collector Boosters.
And that’s all we have for Edge of Eternities coverage right now. News and previews for the fourth Standard release of 2025 will gather momentum from July 8 onwards, so check back around then to learn more about the one place that isn’t corrupted by capitalism (spaaaace).
