Big set, big collector value.
Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY was released last week, and with it brings a new audience of Magic: The Gathering players in a way that hasn’t been achieved before. Sure, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth and Magic Foundations did plenty to bring new players to the game, but MTG—FINAL FANTASY achieves this on a whole new, incredible level.
MTG—FINAL FANTASY offers plenty from the budding collector to the most serious of competitive players, meaning there’s a ton of value to be had in Play and Collector Boosters. There’s a lot going on with MTG—FINAL FANTASY since it’s what Wizards of the Coast called a tentpole release, meaning it can be a bit challenging to know if any of the cards you own are actually worth anything, given the various treatments available.
The Most Expensive Cards from MTG—FINAL FANTASY

Market Price: $35.50

Market Price: $45.48

Market Price: $44.67
Before we begin, do take the current TCGplayer Market Price with a pinch of salt as MTG—FINAL FANTASY was released last Friday, meaning prices are a little volatile as more cards flood the market to keep pace with demand. We’ll update this article as much as possible, along with further content around the most valuable Through the Ages and Surge Foil cards from MTG—FINAL FANTASY — and you can expect these soon.
And since there are so many different treatments of the same card, we’ll try to group these together to make it easier for you to parse and understand the card’s valye when reading. With that, let’s look at some of the most expensive cards you can open from MTG—FINAL FANTASY Play and Collector Boosters.
#10 Lightning, Army of One (Artist Borderless)
Lightning, Army of One
FINAL FANTASY, Mythic

Final Fantasy 13’s (XIII) Lightning, Army of One is one of the marquee cards from MTG—FINAL FANTASY, which is already seeing an impressive amount of interest due to her ability to double-up on any type of damage once she connects with an opponent. What makes Lightning so devastating is that she deals damage to the opponent first (thanks to first strike), and then when regular damage happens with the rest of your creatures — that damage will double!

Market Price: $20.71

Market Price: $30.44

Market Price: $32.70
As such, Lightning, Army of One is becoming an incredible option to lead an Equipment Commander strategy (this is more commonly known as Voltron in MTG) as she comes with so many keywords that she’s just bound to push through damage, especially if you’re able to throw a Genji Glove or a Buster Sword on her for good measure! And it’s the Artist Borderless version of Lightning, Army of One that’s already a decent hit from MTG—FINAL FANTASY as it features works from the iconic 国料勇/ISAMU KAMIKOKURYO, who worked on the Final Fantasy 13 (XIII) series!
#9 Summon: Knights of Round (Woodblock Borderless)
Summon: Knights of Round
FINAL FANTASY, Mythic

One of Final Fantasy 7’s (VII) most iconic spells is becoming a valuable hit as the Woodblock Borderless printing of Summon: Knights of Round is seeing strong interest from players and collectors. Steep eight-mana cost aside, Summon: Knights of Round promises you to win the game once Ultimate End triggers, leaving you with a bunch of indestructible Knights swinging on the battlefield!
While there’s some potential competitive applications with Summon: Knights of Round, it’s mostly Commander interest alongside Terra, Magical Adept as she’s the hottest Saga Commander with MTG—FINAL FANTASY’s release.
#8 Terra, Magical Adept (Artist Borderless)
Terra, Magical Adept
FINAL FANTASY, Mythic

And speaking of Terra, it’s the Artist Borderless printing works created by none other than the legendary 天野喜孝/YOSHITAKA AMANO that’s becoming a significant card to open in Play and Collector Boosters. And it isn’t much of a surprise given the legacy 天野喜孝/YOSHITAKA AMANO has with Final Fantasy, creating a subset of Final Fantasy collectors who want to expand their collection with these stunning cards.
As for the card, Terra, Magical Adept is a remarkably strong Saga Commander, as you can play every single summon in MTG—FINAL FANTASY with her, not to mention the incredible mana ramping ability when flipped into Esper Terra to cast them all! At the time of publication, Terra is one of the top-registered MTG—FINAL FANTASY Commanders on EDHREC, which gives you an idea of how strong and flavorful she is.
#7 Summon: Bahamut (Woodblock Borderless)
Summon: Bahamut
FINAL FANTASY, Mythic

Perhaps the most powerful summon printed in MTG—FINAL FANTASY is Summon: Bahamut, as it comes with a mixture of abilities that simply allow you to win the game — which flavorfully, casting Bahamut in any Final Fantasy game achieves a similar feat. From wiping out nonland permanents to drawing cards, Bahamut can boast a ton of value for the weighty cost of nine colorless mana who can also slide into any Commander strategy of any color. Power aside, opening any copy of Summon: Bahamut is going to bring you decent value, with more value accrued in the Borderless Woodblock printings as it showcases the Final Fantasy 10 (X) depiction of the iconic summon rather stunningly.
#6 Cloud, Midgar Mercenary (Character Borderless)
Cloud, Midgar Mercenary
FINAL FANTASY, Mythic

Character Borderless cards are some of the most desirable treatments in MTG—FINAL FANTASY, so it’s no surprise to see Cloud, Midgar Mercenary becoming an excellent hit from the Standard release. Despite still being early days, a couple of MTG—FINAL FANTASY cards are already seeing competitive play, with Cloud appearing in Modern’s Mono-White Colossus Hammer to reasonable success.

Market Price: $37.88

Market Price: $46.44

Market Price: $446.07
What makes Cloud, Midgar Mercenary such a powerful option is the Stoneforge Mystic-like ability to grab an equipment card from the library and put the card into your hand, and then if Cloud is equipped, you double up any triggers with Cloud or the equipment attached to him. You can do a lot of silly things with Cloud, especially if you have Buster Sword or Ultima Weapon attached for good measure. Any effect that permits you to find a particular card you need is often highly sought after in Commander, and Cloud is no different as it gives you consistency, which is often hard to achieve in the singleton format.
#5 Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER (Character Borderless)
Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER
FINAL FANTASY, Mythic

Final Fantasy 7’s (VII) Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER is another one of the hotly-contended cards from MTG—FINAL FANTASY not only because the character is featured in one of the widely-proclaimed Final Fantasy games, but the card is also a helluva beating. Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER oozes value and is the best Blood Artist-like effect we’ve seen in Magic: The Gathering thus far, and this one you can play as a Commander!

Market Price: $39.28

Market Price: $59.60

Market Price: $96.44
And at the time of publication, it’s the Character Borderless printing of the Final Fantasy 7 (VII) antagonist that’s claiming the most value from Play Boosters with an incredible multiplier on the Surge Foil printing only found in Collector Boosters. That aside, opening any copy of Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER is an incredible hit, especially the stunning Artist Borderless printing by 野村哲也/TETSUYA NOMURA!
#4 Buster Sword (Woodblock Borderless)
Buster Sword
FINAL FANTASY, Mythic

MTG—FINAL FANTASY introduces a deep Equipment theme with cards such as Gilgamesh, Master-at-Arms and Firion, Wild Rose Warrior, but it’s Cloud’s trusty Buster Sword that is becoming one of the most valuable Borderless cards from the release. While the card doesn’t even break the most powerful cards in MTG—FINAL FANTASY, it’s clear the set is bringing with it a ton of collectors who want to own the more exotic variants for their Final Fantasy collection. If you didn’t think Magic: The Gathering was a collector’s game before, it absolutely is now where MTG—FINAL FANTASY has broken this sentiment wide open.
#3 Vivi Ornitier (Artist Borderless)
Vivi Ornitier
FINAL FANTASY, Mythic

Everyone’s favorite existential Black Mage is one of the big-ticket items in MTG—FINAL FANTASY, as the card has so much competitive and casual overlap that demand for Vivi remains sky-high even with cards now out in the wild. From Standard’s Izzet Prowess to Modern’s Izzet Affinity, Vivi Ornitier is seeing decent competitive success leading up to Pro Tour: Final Fantasy this upcoming weekend. Then, of course, there’s the Commander applications.

Market Price: $58.46

Market Price: $89.10

Market Price: $100.80
Vivi Ornitier is one of the hottest Commanders from MTG—FINAL FANTASY as it comes with a slew of abilities allowing the Black Mage to propel on mana and deal damage to each opponent at the table whenever you cast a noncreature spell — it’s like a Niv-Mizzet, Parun designed with 2025 in mind. And whenever there’s a Commander that can do so much at a reasonable mana cost, the demand to build the deck soars as everyone tries to do “the busted thing”. It’s why cards such as Quicksilver Elemental, Curiosity, and Blazing Shoal are soaring in demand as these cards all work excellently with Vivi Ornitier. While opening any copy of the card is going to bring you value, there’s a further premium on the Borderless Artist printing with works by 板鼻利幸/TOSHIYUKI ITAHANA, who was the character designer for the Final Fantasy 9 (IX) video game released in the 2000s.
#2 The Surge Foil Character Borderless Cards

Market Price: $609.43

Market Price: $754.03

Market Price: $613.26

Market Price: $296.01

Market Price: $445.36

Market Price: $312.68
Appearing in only Collector Boosters, the Surge Foil Borderless Character Cards are another incredible hit if you’re lucky enough to open any of these at rare or mythic rare, with a remarkable multiplier from any Surge Foil Borderless Character cards opened in the Commander: FINAL FANTASY subset. At the time of publication, Y’shtola, Night’s Blessed, Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER, and Cloud, Ex-SOLIDER are the most valuable Surge Foil Character Borderless cards, with plenty more being high-value hits from the highly anticipated release given the deep collectibility of MTG—FINAL FANTASY. We won’t delve further into the Surge Foil cards mentioned at the top, as we’ll cover these in more detail in another article very soon.
#1 The Gold Chocobo and Neon Ink Cards

Market Price: n/a

Market Price: $762.99

Market Price: $903.48

Market Price: $963.92

Market Price: $877.60

Market Price: $3,748.60
If you’ve been following MTG—FINAL FANTASY since release, you’d be aware of how incredibly valuable the Gold and Neon Ink Chocobo cards are. Appearing in Pink, Green, Yellow, Blue, and Black (in Japanese language only), these Neon Ink cards are already holding decent value despite only appearing in less than 1% of Collector Boosters. We’ve already discussed how Traveling Chocobo has chops in Commander,
This sentiment also applies to the Serialized Gold Chocobo, which is by far and away the most expensive card you can open in MTG—FINAL FANTASY, and it isn’t remotely close. While any opening any number of the Golden Chocobo is going to bring at least five figures, there’s definitely going to be a multiplier on any cards opened numbered from #01 to #16, as these acknowledge every mainline Final Fantasy game. Not to mention, #069 (nice) is another high-value number due to continued trends on social media and in culture.
